From the recording Will You Remember Me?
A few years ago, I visited Kenya on a trip with Compassion International. I met a mother named Anrietta, who was HIV positive. She was terribly sick. But her primary concern was her daughter. As I was leaving her village, she stopped me, grabbed my shoulder and turned me around and asked me this question:
"Will you remember me?"I said, "I could never forget you."She asked again. I reassured her. Then she said, "I just need to know that, when I die, someone will remember me." She was afraid that she'd be dying soon, leaving her young daughter to fend for herself...and she was afraid that she would be forgotten.
I suppose we all want a legacy, right? We all want to leave this world a better place than the way we found it. We all want to be remembered.
I wrote this song to always remember Anrietta. I've never released this song. But I thought I'd share it here.
