  1. Here I Am

From the recording So Human

In cart Not available Out of stock

This song is written from the perspective of Christ. What must it have been like to go from sitting next to His Father in heaven...to being a baby human? I tried to imagine what internal conversations may have been like for Jesus throughout his life:
"What is this skin that covers me?"
and, how lonely it must've been:
"Five thousand here, I'm still alone..."
But always bringing it back to Christ's willingness to do the job he was sent to do:
"Here I am, I'm ready to be everything that you want me to be."

Lyrics

Here I Am
Music by Brian Dekam and John Doryk, lyrics by Tim Glenn

What is this skin that covers me?
It bruises and it tears so easily
It borders flesh and bone, oh I'm just like everyone...
but different.

I come as child, they want a king
amaze the crowds, confound the priests
it's the first that some have heard, there's power in your Word
but they're listening

Here I am, I'm ready to be
everything that you want me to be
Take my life into your hands
prepare the way, I'm under your command...
here I am.

Five thousand here, I'm still alone
There's food enough for everyone
Oh they gather as I heal but not one asks how I feel
not ever

Is it too much to fight off sleep?
Just stay awake and watch my keep
With a kiss I've been betrayed, but I've been waiting for this day...
forever

Here I am, I'm ready to be
everything that you want me to be
Take my life into your hands
prepare the way, I'm under your command...
here I am

What is this sin that covers me?
It bears my blood for everyone to see
It is finished, all is done, Father please receive your son...
I'm coming...

Here I am, I'm ready to be
everything that you want me to be
Take my life into your hands
prepare the way, I'm under your command...
here I am

Here I am, I'm ready to be
everything that you want me to be
Take my life into your hands
prepare the way, I'm under your command...
here I am
